Abstract

A Comparative Analysis of Performance by Graduate and Undergraduate Students in an MEP CourseMechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) course is offered both at undergraduate andgraduate levels in schools of construction science in the United States. The course is required forgraduate students who do not have any exposure to these materials at an undergraduate level.The author is offering this course to both the groups combined together in Fall 2014. Thepurpose this study is to find out whether there is difference in performance in the course betweengraduate and graduate students. There are 27 graduate and 51 undergraduate students enrolled forthis class.A preliminary analysis of the data indicates that there is a statistically significant difference inperformance (measured by two assignments, four in-class quizzes, and one major exam),between the two groups. A multiple regression analysis was used to analyze the data. It will beinteresting to examine whether these preliminary findings remain valid using the completedataset available at the end of the semester in December 2014.Keywords:MEP, Student Performance, Graduate Students, Undergraduate Students
