Abstract

Analysis And Simulation of Hybrid Electric Energy Storage (HEES) Systems for High Power Applications a b C Hassan Moghbelli , Shahab Sabzi , Ali Jamalifard Arak University of Technology, Arak, Iran a hamoghbeli@yahoo.com b Shahab.sabzi@gmail.com c alijamalifard@mailfa.comKeywords: Hybrid Electric Energy Storage (HEES), Energy Storage, Clean ElectricEnergy, Battery, Supercapacitor, Flywheel, Power Electronics CircuitAbstract: In recent years, using hybrid electric energy storage (HEES) system hasbecome a solution to supply continuous, and reliable electric energy to high powerapplications. Some advantages of different electric energy storages can becombined to provide required electric energy for specific application by HEES.In today’s world, there is a continuous global need for more electric energy which iscleaner than the electric energy produced from traditional generation technologies. The extensive use of clean energy sources in today’s electricity networks canminimize the threat of global warming and climate change. There are manyadvantages in using renewable energy sources along with electric energy generatedby fossil fuels which will be discussed in this paper. This work also discusses different types of electric energy storage devices along withadvantages and their disadvantages. Different types of renewable energy sourceand their role in in hybrid electric energy storage system will be analyzed. Therequired power electronic circuits in HEES also will be introduced. Finally, somepractical examples of hybrid electric energy storage systems such as battery, supercapacitor, and flywheel are modeled and simulated in this paper.
