Abstract

This paper thoroughly explores the synergies between Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Building Information Modeling (BIM), examining the potential benefits derived from their integration. These advantages encompass the automation of repetitive tasks, optimization of design processes, improvement of building energy efficiency, advanced scheduling and resource allocation, quality control enhancements, safety monitoring, and risk mitigation, as well as the incorporation of virtual and augmented reality, natural language processing, and voice recognition. Furthermore, the paper explains the challenges inherent in this technological fusion, addressing crucial aspects such as the evolving role of humans in the construction field, data quality and standardization issues, trust and liability, skill gaps and training needs, and ethical considerations. A case study featured in this paper sheds light on AI's capability to simulate single-house energy consumption. The study compares these AI-generated simulations with energy results obtained for the same model using ASHREA® and Energy Plus software. Not only does this validate the accuracy of the AI web-based platform, but the paper also explores additional analytical aspects offered by the platform, contributing to a comprehensive understanding of its capabilities.
