AB  - To better understand the influences of culture, education, and moral dispositions on ethical reasoning among engineering students, the Engineering and Science Issues Test (ESIT) and Moral Foundations Questionnaire (MFQ) were administered at the beginning and end of a course on engineering ethics taught at a university in Shanghai, China. Preliminary results indicate that 1. differences in ethical reasoning between native- and non-native-English-speaking students are better explained by cultural than language differences 2. engineering ethics education can increase ethical reasoning abilities, and 3. ethical reasoning is positively associated with an emphasis on care, and negatively associated with an emphasis on loyalty. Shortcomings of the current study and directions for further research are also discussed.
