Abstract

Completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam is a graduation requirement for students in the Civil & Environmental Engineering program at College X. The FE supplies a resource handbook (FERH) with formulas, standard values, conversions, etc. However, textbooks and the FERH often use different versions of standard equations. To familiarize students with FERH, students in the three-course environmental engineering sequence are given a standardized formula booklet for class tests based on the FERH and are allowed to annotate. This paper will present student perceptions on the use of the annotated-FERH on class exams, the annotation content in a semester’s collected formula booklets, and possible correlations between annotation and performance on tests.
