AB  - Establishing a Construction Management Track withinan Architectural Engineering Technology ProgramThe current recession has had a dramatic impact on all aspects of the constructionindustry. According to many studies more than half the architects in the northeast arecurrently unemployed and the remaining halve have suffered pay cuts, reduced workweeks, and other hardships. In our opinion, when the industry emerges from this recession, it will look drasticallydifferent than it did before the recession. We feel that while the construction industry willrequire professionals with architectural educations, it employ those people in a lesstraditional and different capacity. The industry is employing less people in a traditionalarchitectural office setting and more people in program manager and constructionmanager capacities. The current recession has accelerated the shift in this direction.We have outlined the following tasks as we embark on our effort to establish aConstruction Management Track within our Architectural Engineering TechnologyProgram.CM Track: Develop a track for architecture students interested in pursuing a CM trackand careers in a more construction related capacity.CM Track Curriculum: Develop the curriculum for the CM track students.CM Track Advisor: Advise undergraduate students on CM track. Help CM track studentsfind employment and/or pursue graduate study in construction.CM Track Clubs and Organizations: Coordinate student involvement in Constructionrelated organizations and clubs, example: Construction Institute (CI) and AmericanInstitute of Architects (AIA). Invite professionals to campus to discuss the CM industry.
