Tim Kotnour, Ph.D., is a Professor in the Department of Industrial Engineering and Management Systems at the University of Central Florida. Dr. Kotnour partners with senior management teams to develop solutions for sustained performance excellence for their organization. He completed his doctorate in Industrial & Systems Engineering with an emphasis in Management Systems Engineering from Virginia Tech. He is the Director of the UCF Engineering Leadership and Innovation Institute. He is the Program Director of the Professional Engineering Management Program. He is a Fellow in NASA’s Center for Program/Project Management Research. He is a Fellow of the American Society for Engineering Management. He is author of the book Transforming Organizations: Strategies and Methods. He was the Editor of the Engineering Management Journal. Charles H. Reilly University of Central Florida

Charles H. Reilly is Associate Dean for Academic Affairs in the College of Engineering and Computer Science and a Professor in the Department of Industrial Engineering and Management Systems at the University of Central Florida. He earned a BA in mathematics and business administration at St. Norbert College and MS and PhD degrees in industrial engineering at Purdue University. His principal area is simulation of synthetic optimization problems for computational experiments. Dr. Reilly is a fellow of the Institute of Industrial Engineers and the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

John A. Selter University of Central Florida

Jack Selter is currently Associate Director of the Engineering Leadership and Innovation Institute within the College of Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Central Florida. His major areas of responsibility are student and faculty outreach, program development and marketing and industry interaction. Prior to this position Jack worked at the University as the Director of a Transportation Institute, Development Officer and Assistant to the Dean.
Jack has over 35 years of experience working with industry to develop productive partnerships with academia and governmental organizations. Other work experience positions include Georgia Tech, Clemson University and Carnegie-Mellon University.

Abstract

Integrating Leadership Education into the Undergraduate Engineering Experience AbstractThis paper contributes a description of efforts to infuse leadership concepts into undergraduate engineeringprograms. There is a strong national push for enhancing the undergraduate engineering educational experiences.A short overview of the need and current practices is provided. A case study of the University of Central Florida’sEngineering Leadership & Innovation Institute (eli2) is provided. This case study provides a process used to definethe institute and a description of the institute’s program. A detailed concept of operations is provided. A personresponsible for developing and running an engineering leadership effort can use this paper to identify potentialapproaches for their institute. 1|Page
