Dr. Don E. Mah earned his PhD in Construction Engineering and Management through the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Alberta. He has been employed at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology for over twenty years as an Instructor, Associate Chair and Chair in Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Engineering Technology and Bachelor of Technology in Construction Management programs. His research interests lie in the area of curriculum and academic program development, construction management, construction material waste minimization, sustainable residential construction, greenhouse gas reduction, green building rating programs and process evaluation. Don possesses diverse work experience in the design, construction and project management of various types of building and infrastructure projects.

He has extensive experience in management & development of the schedules, provision of cost control services. In addition to this he has provided risk analysis services for the large institutional building, Pipelines & infrastructure projects, and Transmission lines. Vishal has the opportunity to work with the one of the best research groups in India, Canada and Germany. His area of interest is infrastructure management, risk analysis, simulation and 3D Modeling.

Her research interests include corporate social and environmental sustainability and cross-sector initiatives in the fields of affordable housing. Abstract

Traditional project delivery entices stakeholders to maximize their individual outcomes, regardless of the effect on the overall project. Because interests are not affiliated, if conflicts arise, individual self-interest tends to place the project at risk of failure. Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) aims to create alignment among all stakeholders regarding why and how a project will be accomplished. An IPD method integrates people, systems, and practices into a process that collaboratively harnesses the talents of all participants to optimize efficiency through all phases of design and construction. This paper reviews the challenges of the traditional project delivery methods and discusses the opportunities that an IPD approach offers that would foster team play and incentivize the right result. IPD advocates early involvement of key participants, reduced liability, joint project management, and sharing of risk and reward. A case study is presented which discusses the lessons learned that can support the use of IPD for project success. The design challenges in this case study involved designing a commercial building using Net-Zero performance criteria. The findings of successful implementation of IPD are also discussed in the paper that will be of particular interest to construction engineers, designers, estimators, project managers and researchers who are interested in using and promoting IPD methodology in the construction industry.
