Abstract

The number of women who decide to study engineering turns out to be underrepresented within the total population of students in the area, despite the efforts made by governments and universities. Chile is no exception, in 2019 only 28.7% of the students who entered science and technology careers were women. Among the factors that influence this decision, there are family, cultural, economic and social aspects, which reduce women's self-concept about learning and capacity in this area. With the purpose of promoting and increasing self-concept in the learning of first-year engineering students of the Computer Engineering and Industrial Engineering careers, in the subject of Database at the Andrés Bello University, we want to answer the question ¿ How does applying interactive and collaborative learning activities influence the self-concept of learning and the academic performance of engineering students? . The study considers a work methodology quantitative, explanatory and non-experimental type, on a sample of 109 students, 18% female. The development of the methodology considers carrying out an interactive and collaborative activity on a weekly basis that encourages questioning and debate among students, which allows understanding and internalizing the expected learning developed in the activity, reinforcing the contribution of learning in the environment with examples of contributions to society and / or organization. After the activity, the students answer a survey on the perception of learning. Both the result of the survey and the teacher's qualification for the training activity carried out will be recorded every week during the semester. At the end of the semester, the variables of interest will be analyzed: student self-concept, qualification training activity and academic performance, in search of possible correlations between them. It is desired to conclude that, if interactive and collaborative activities are applied in the class, they contribute positively to the self-concept of learning and to the academic performance of the students.
